Ivan exposes secret Council
Car Parking Charge Plans
Ivan Lewis has accused Bury Council of deception over secret plans to introduce car parking charges in Prestwich.
A published Council document identifies 35k to be gained in income from increasing car parking charges in Bury. But until Mr Lewis’s intervention the Council had not come clean that the income was to come from introducing car parking charges in Prestwich for the first time.
Until now the Council has, for many years, maintained a no charging policy in Prestwich to support the local economy and encourage people to support small businesses.
Ivan stated:
“Following on from their proposals to decimate the Longfield Suite this Tory Council is launching another unwarranted attack on Prestwich.”
“Introducing car parking charges will undermine the local economy at a time when we should be doing all we can to encourage local people to support small businesses. Beginning with Fairfax Road car park this is the thin edge of the wedge. If they get away with this I have no doubt that within a year they will extend charges to the Longfield Centre and all other car parks in Prestwich.
“I urge the Prestwich community to come together and join my “No to Car Parking Charges” campaign. Anyone able to offer support should email me at ivanlewis@burysouth.fsnet.co.uk.
